Create a Simple Background Using Brushes and Styles

If you are not familiar with styles they are a fantastic tool to help you create simple or more detailed digital artsy creations.

We are going to talk a lot more about styles and brushes in the future. Meanwhile, I wanted to show you a couple of ideas to use the brush tools from NBK Design for our winter magic.

In Photoshop CC 18  abr brush files are loaded in their own folder now which is pretty cool.

After I loaded the brushes and the styles I opened a solid paper. I brushed some of them randomly, it’s important to make sure you create a new layer for each group of brushes in case you want to change styles or size later.

Also, make sure you change brush opacity to 100% because these brushes were created to work with color many times they have different blend modes, opacity, and flow and because we want full color and shape to use with styles make sure to change the mode to normal, opacity and flow to 100%.

After you brush and apply different styles it would look something like this:

It’s a great way to create an artistic background without using a lot of products, it’s also a great way to create a layout with cohesive colors.

After that, I just added one of the artsy pieces from the mini kit this is totally optional as the background was already painted.

To finish the layout I used the brushes as a mask I rotated the brush so it would have different edges after I clipped my picture.

This was my final layout:

As you can see in my title I applied the style but because in Photoshop CC we can stack styles and shadows I added a bevel & emboss and a drop shadow.

I finalized my layout with just a few embellishments and let my background do the most work.

Remember: styles and brushes can save you time, they are a great resource to help you finish your layout fast and with an artistic look.
