Making Text and Word Art Grungy

This article today will help you with some ideas to get you started on how to make your word art and text grungy in case you are doing a art journal or artistic layout.

Let’s get started !

Transform you text into a rasterize layer

If you are working with regular text in order to use other tools you need to rasterize your type . Just type what you want to create and right click on it and choose rasterize. It’s good to point out I’m using Photoshop CC 2017

I would duplicate several times because you never know  what you will end up liking.

After that there are many possibilities to use your text

Clip a grunge paper to the text  with a layer mask

Use brushes with the layer mask to distress the text

Stamp on top with blend modes to give even more effects

Use styles to grungy your text and word art

My favorite thing is to use styles you can make all the steps I’ve shown you above but styles are ready made for you and it’s just a click of a mouse

In this example I used a grungy style

You can use them with word arts and layer them

I duplicated the word art and used 2 different styles on top of another

You cand grungy even  further using the technique I did above with a layer mask and brushes.

I hope this was helpful for you to create some awesome effects in your layouts.
